It is originally from South Asia and there are representations of melons in Egyptian tombs of 4,000 years ago.

The melons were introduced in France in the early fifteenth century and were consumed in large quantities by the Court which were served in a pyramid accompanied by muscatel.

Properties

  • The melon is very cooling and tonic.
  • It is very rich in carotenoids.
  • It is a good antioxidant.
  • It brings a rich smount of minerals (potassium, magnesium and calcium).
  • It is rich in beta-carotene provitamin A, reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Melon Smoothie


Ingredients

  • 1/4 cantaloupe – peeled, seeded and cubed
  • 1/4 honeydew melon – peeled, seeded and cubed
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
 

Directions

In a blender, combine cantaloupe, honeydew, lime juice and sugar. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.
